Collooney Kickboxing Club

About Us

Collooney kickboxing club is an Amateur sports club and was founded in 2002 by Chief Instructor Des Leonard, who returned from America to establish the club in the local parish hall. He had previously trained in Sligo and Dublin to fourth degree black belt grade. Shortly after Aine Conlon, a fellow black belt and now senior instructor joined the coaching team as both coach and fighter. The club caters for adults and children fron Collooney and the surrounding areas and has over 120 members from all diversities and community backgrounds. The club continues to travel to various international "open" tournaments where their fighters compete against the best in the world for international recognition and prestige. It already has an impressive list of achievements.
Dessie Leonard has been world Champion on five occasions and has attained a similar number of European titles.
Aine Leonards won the world championship in 2012 and 2014, adding European titles in 2011 and 2013.
Jordan O'Boyle bacame world champion in 2012.
In recent years sisters Ruth and Lucy Conlon-Oates from Ballisodare have brought European and world medals to the club.
Ruth won a European title in 2015, having won a world bronze a year earlier,
while Lucy was a world silver medalist in 2018 before winning the European title a year later.
The club has also gathered a host of silver and bronze medals over the years.


The club is based in the parochial Hall in Collooney (next to the train Station) and runs classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
